Toyota Prius Recall in the Works

Monday, February 8, 2010

Toyota will soon announce recalls for 300,000 Prius hybrids sold in the United States and Japan. This is the latest embarrassment for the world’s largest car maker after having to recall automobiles for having defective gas pedals. The Prius hybrids are being recalled because of complaints about a faulty brake system.

According to the New York Daily News, a voluntary or mandatory recall has not been formally announced, but the announcement can come as early as today. The slow moving brakes on the car led to a collision last summer, just months after the third-generation Prius went on sale. Drivers complained that the brakes on the Prius momentarily stopped working at low speeds, especially on slippery surfaces. In one incident in July 2009, a Prius crashed head-on into another vehicle at an intersection hurting two people in that car. New York personal injury lawyers agree that Toyota is liable for the defects of the Prius.
