Tuesday, January 5, 2010

Former NBA player Jayson Williams is facing DWI charges after crashing his SUV into a tree on the East Side on the morning of January 5, 2010. The former Net was driving his black Mercedes SUV on the FDR and exited at the East 20th Street exit. He proceeded to hit a tree at East 18th Street and according to police, he refused to take a Breathalyzer test. Mr. Williams suffered lacerations to his forehead and was taken to Bellevue Hospital.

Legal troubles aren’t new to Mr. Williams. He was tried on charges stemming from the shooting of 55-year-old limousine driver Costas Christofi at Williams’ house in New Jersey on February 14, 2002. Williams was acquitted of most of the serious charges but the jury was deadlocked on a charge of reckless manslaughter and he is currently facing retrial on that charge. The family of Mr. Christofi settled their wrongful death lawsuit with Williams for $2.75 million.

Drunk driving in New York is a serious issue. Many accidents are caused when the person operating the vehicle is impaired. There are already enough auto accidents in New York. Experienced automobile accident lawyers understand the dangers of driving a vehicle. Driving a vehicle while intoxicated is not acceptable.
