New York Real-Estate Agent's Family Files a Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Thursday, November 5, 2009

A lawsuit filed in Supreme Court, New York County alleges that real-estate agent to the stars, Linda Stein would still be alive today if the firm she was working for had done a background check on the young woman hired as a personal assistant, who now stands accused of murdering Ms. Stein. Ms. Stein worked with such celebrities as Madonna, Sting, Angelina Jolie, Billy Joel, Michael Douglas, Elton John, Steven Spielberg, Christie Brinkley and Bruce Willis.

The lawsuit accuses the real-estate firm, Prudential Douglas Elliman Real Estate, and the employment agency, Axion, for failing to screen assistant Natavia Lowery and having her work out of Ms. Stein’s Fifth Avenue home. Her estate alleges a simple background check would have revealed Ms. Lowery’s violent predisposition.

According to the New York Post article, Ms. Lowery allegedly bludgeoned Ms. Stein to death on October 30, 2007 after Ms. Stein “unleashed a verbal tirade at her.” The wrongful death lawsuit was filed by Ms. Stein’s daughters, Samantha Wells and Mandy Stein, with the help of their personal injury attorney in New York.
