Mother Nature, construction sites and your safety

It is raining again! Just another wonderful day when it took me an hour and a half to commute from home in Bay Ridge Brooklyn to my office in Midtown Manhattan on the so called express bus. Once again I was stuck in traffic on the BQE, because of the weather. If I sound frustrated, well, yes I am. I was late to work, because the greatest City in the World, the City of New York, cannot handle two days of the rain. If you feel my pain, comment back on our blog!

The only benefit of sitting on a bus for over an hour is that I have a lot of time to think and reflect. At the time when I felt sorry for myself sitting in the cushioned seat with the AC blowing over my head, I remembered that at the very same time there are millions of people out there that are working in those terrible weather conditions. It reminded me of my client, a construction worker who was blown of the roof at a construction site in Westchester County a few years ago when he was told by his foreman to cover a roof of a house with plastic tarp on a rainy day like today. A strong wind picked up the tarp which took off the roof like a sail with my client holding on to it. The end of the story is very predictable. He fell to the ground below and suffered serious injuries at that construction site. Although many construction sites shut down on the rainy days, there are still thousands of construction workers who risk their lives because if they were to refuse to work they could lose their jobs.

Injured workers often blame themselves for not being cautious and consider injuries at construction sites an unfortunate accident, but there are remedies available and most of the time there is someone else responsible for such accident who owes the injured construction worker proper compensation. If you were injured at work do not hesitate to contact an experienced New York Personal Injury Lawyer.
