New York Personal Injury Attorney Comments on Dangers of Metal Hip Implants

Monday, March 15, 2010

Some of the top orthopedic surgeons in the nation have reduced and even eliminated completely the use of metal on metal artificial hips due to the severe damage it can do to tissue and bone. The Supreme Court has closed off access to the courts of victims. “This is extremely alarming due to the fact that many people have to go under the knife again within two years of having metal on metal hip implants,” said New York personal injury attorney David Perecman. “When you have doctors at the finest hospitals in the United States recommending patients not to undergo this hip implant surgery, and the elevated risks of metal on metal implants, more studies need to be done before allowing this procedure to move forward.”

Cosmetic Surgery Error Unsurprising to New York Medical Malpratice Lawyers

A Manhattan society denizen claims that her dermatologist ruined her social standing because of a medical error the occurred during a cosmetic procedure. A laser treatment left her with red splotches on her face and also caused a permanent loss of pigment in the area of the procedure. New York medical malpractice lawyers know that any surgery is potentially dangerous, and this includes cosmetic surgery. While complications and scarring are rare, even death can occur as a result of these procedures. According to the United States Census Bureau in 2007, there were almost 11.5 million cosmetic surgeries in the year 2006.

Controller Allows Child to Direct Planes in New York

An air traffic controller let two children direct air traffic at the nation's sixth-busiest airport, JFK International in New York. This personal injury lawyer supports the Federal Aviation Administration’s investigation into the incident. Air traffic controllers who are handling departure control are almost always multi-tasking, meaning they are talking to more than one pilot at the same time. In order for the child to talk on the microphone, the controller would have to concentrate his attention on only one plane. On February 16th one child was present in the control tower and directing traffic on a departure runway. On February 17th, the night right after the first incident, the same air traffic controller brought a different child into the tower and allowed him to speak to the pilots. New York personal injury lawyers know that accidents happen and to have someone create a situation, where an accident may be more likely to happen, is unwise.

$575 Million WTC Settlement for Injured Workers

Friday, March 12, 2010

According to the New York Daily News, New York City agreed to a settlement worth at least $575 million with more than 10,000 rescue and cleanup workers sickened or injured at Ground Zero. The agreement creates a point system for payouts based on the severity of each person’s illness.

The settlement must be approved by a judge and 95% of the plaintiffs. The minimum payout is expected to be $3,200 for someone who is not sick but has a “fear of cancer.” Terminal cancer patients could get $1 million, while families of those who died due to their work after the 9/11 attacks could get $2 million or more. The money will come from a $1 billion federal grant to the WTC Captive Insurance Company.

Victims must prove that they were at Ground Zero and that their illness was caused by their work there. New York personal injury lawyers and construction accident lawyers understand that people injured at the work site need to be compensated.
